The biggest point of failure to crafting the perfect coffee is the human operating the machine.
Now of course the perfect coffee is something that becomes a life long pursuit for professional Baristas and we need those people. The except soon filters down to become the norm and that is why our business exists. 10 years ago good coffee was a dream in the UK, only refined to the very elite coffee shops with huge commercial machines that need 3 people to operate.
Tamping
Once the machine has been set, the boiler is the right temperature, the grind is perfect, the coffee must be Tamped.
And this pivotal point is where in-consistency occurs the most, the human aspect of pushing a hand plunger into the ground coffee with just the right amount of pressure, the right twist and for the right amount of time. All of these aspects create huge variable in the coffee served.

This is the reason coffee shops have multiple highly trained baristas that can serve coffee consistently every time. Not just between each cup but over the length of a day and in an almost identical way to each other.
The Solution
You have already worked it out but this is where bean to cup machines come in. They create the same coffee every time (almost) which creates happy customers, the cost of creating the drink is cheaper offering better value for money and higher margins.

Ok even a machine has variables, whilst we specify and supply the most consistent and robust machines the tamping is a product of water pressure inside the machine. This is managed internally so that the external supply doesn't impact it. but there is still a small variable.
We Fixed It
To remove even the smallest variable we re-engineer the machines so that they no longer use water pressure, instead it is a set of carefully measured spacers that ensure the perfect, consistent tamping every time.
